Hip Hop Concert

A hip-hop show at Mingles Social Club: a dark room, a standing crowd, and performers who came down off the stage and into the audience.

Here the lighting was the show. Moving heads cut white beams through heavy haze, red, green and violet lasers swept the room, an LED multi-beam effect threw colour across the ceiling beside the mirror ball, and fabric-wrapped columns glowed green, cyan and magenta around the walls.

The DJ played from a booth of turntables and laptops, and the MCs worked on wireless handheld microphones, so they could move through the crowd.

It is the opposite brief to a gala: no speeches, no tables, no need for anyone to read a slide — just a room that looked and felt like a concert from the first track.
