ACE — Albanian Canadian Excellence — held its 2017 Awards Gala at Château Le Jardin on Highway 27 in Woodbridge, under the banner "Celebrating Our Own". The room was a ballroom of chandeliers and gilded plaster, set with ivory rounds and gold chairs and filled for the evening.
Our stage ran across the front of the room: a white-topped deck with black skirting and stairs, a printed ACE backdrop, the Albanian and Canadian flags, and an ACE-branded lectern. Speakers were stacked two high on stands either side, with floor monitors on the deck for the performers and wireless microphones for presenters and winners.
The lighting did two jobs. Pairs of profile spots on T-stands lit the stage for the speeches and awards, focused by our technician before doors. Blue LED washed the backdrop, and red and amber uplighting picked out the pilasters around the room. A projection screen framed in black drape carried the programme, opening with last year's gala.
The evening had a live band and a string duo, and a magic-mirror photo booth behind stanchions and red carpet.
